Town Watch chairperson Wallace Robinson, informed the membership that we now have 16 town watch volunteers. He said that the volunteers are considering patrolling on nights, besides Fridays/Saturdays. He also explained the Neighbor Watch program, basically volunteers would patrol only, their own blocks. Applications for the 2011 book scholarship were made available. Abington Township Commissioners Jay and Michael O Connor briefly discussed the Anti-Discrimination Ordinance that was recently voted by the Commissioners. They explained that it was a procedural issue and that it would be re-introduced. Fire Chief Chris Bors said that the firehouse will replace their air conditioning unit. They have added one new firefighter. He also reminded residents to clear snow from around the fire hydrants. Wallace thanked Fire Chief Chris for donating a Christmas tree to a needy family. John agreed to put these additional prop MCKINLEY CIVIC ASSOCIATION ( February 3, 2011) The McKinley Civic Association Meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM on Thursday February 3, 2011, by Co-Chairperson John Edgar. John lead us in the pledge of allegiance. There were no minutes provided. Treasurer Frank Gillespie gave the treasurer s report, the balance he provided was $743.47. Co-Chair Rose Taylor, was not present, the grievance report was given by Co-Chair Betty Smith. She noted that residents should report properties where the snow was not removed in a timely manner. Webmaster Susan Dubrunfaut was not present. Social Chair Devonne White was not present. We discussed the memorial tree for Henry Washington, collections are ongoing. Jennifer Sherwood explained the process for obtaining and planting of a tree. She will contact the family of Mr. Washington to ask if they have any preference as to the type of tree. The tree planting will take place on April 30, 2011, at the Ethel Jordan Park. It was decided that it was not feasible to place a marker on the tree, because they usually come up missing. A plaque will be placed in the Abington Township building. Jennifer also, informed the group that there are going to be 2 free workshops provided by the Abington Township Environmental Advisory Council, (1) Free tree Planting/Care Workshop, will be presented on Saturday, February 12, 9am or on Saturday, March 26, at 9am. This event will take place at Briar Bush Nature Center. (2) The Abington Township Environmental Council is also presenting Living Streamside at the Roslyn Boys and Girls Club on Saturday, April 9, from 10 to 11 am.
